A private undertaking can add to support. It cannot reduce support the law requires or that a court has ordered.
The law requires support only between spouses, parents and children, other ascendants and descendants, and brothers and sisters (Family Code Arts. 195 and 196). A promise to support anyone else is a gift (donation) of money, which needs a written acceptance and may be subject to donor's tax.
Naming the recipient as your child in this signed or notarized document can be used as proof of filiation (parentage) under Family Code Arts. 172 and 175. If parentage is not yet established, choose the second option: the document will not call the recipient your child, and the support is treated as a gift. Get legal advice if parentage is disputed.
