Authorization letter in Tagalog: samples for PSA, pickups, and payments
Sample authorization letters in Filipino you can adapt, with what the PSA asks for, which IDs to send along, and when a special power of attorney is needed instead.
Key points
- You can write an authorization letter in Filipino. Filipino and English are both official languages.
- Name the office, the exact document or payment, and your representative. PSA refuses letters that state only a general purpose.
- Send copies of your ID and your representative's ID; offices often ask for both.
- Selling or mortgaging property, borrowing money, or making gifts needs a special power of attorney, not a letter (Civil Code Art. 1878).

Can you write an authorization letter in Tagalog?
Yes. The Constitution makes Filipino and English the official languages of communication (Art. XIV, Sec. 7), and Executive Order No. 335 (1988) directs government offices to use Filipino more in official communications. None of the PSA, SSS, or PhilHealth requirements checked in our authorization letter guide say the letter must be in English. For a bank or private company, ask first.
What to write
Keep it to one task. Include these parts:
- The date (petsa) and, if you know it, the office you are writing to (Sa Kinauukulan works for any office)
- Your full name and address, and your representative's full name and relationship to you
- The exact task: which document, package, or payment, and at which office
- How long the authority lasts, if the office does not set its own limit
- What you are attaching, usually copies of both IDs
- Your signature and printed name
For a PSA birth certificate or other civil registry document
Under PSA Memorandum Circular No. 2019-15A, the letter must say that its purpose is to get the document from PSA and must name the type of document; a letter with only a general purpose is refused. It may be typed or handwritten, and your name and signature must match your ID. Your spouse, parents, and direct descendants may request your record without a letter.
For one payment, such as a salary or benefit check
A payer may release a payment to someone you authorize, if it accepts your letter: the Civil Code treats payment to a person authorized to receive it as valid (Art. 1240), and your representative must account for and hand over whatever is received for you (Art. 1891). PhilHealth's 2026 Citizen's Charter, for example, accepts an original authorization letter with copies of both IDs for releasing a benefit check.
Salary is stricter: wages must be paid to you directly, and the Labor Code (Art. 105) and its implementing rules allow your employer to pay them through someone else only on your written authority, generally to a member of your family. For any payment, name the exact payment and amount, say that your representative may only sign for its receipt, and set a short deadline to hand it over. Ask the payer first, because some credit payments only to your own account.
When a letter is not enough
Acts such as selling or mortgaging property, borrowing or lending money, or making gifts need a special power of attorney (Civil Code Art. 1878), which is usually notarized. If an office gives you its own form, use that form.
